Columbia iQ (CUIQ) is an affinity group of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) undergraduate students at Columbia University that seeks to foster queer and trans leadership and community in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). CUIQ formed in Spring 2016. We hope to make Columbia a more accepting place for LGBTQ undergraduate students in STEM. We feel that CUIQ fills a niche on campus that many of Columbia's peer institutions already have filled in the form of oSTEM chapters, and we are now affiliated with oSTEM ourselves. So far we have thrown social events, including a study break and a panel of LGBTQ researchers and tech professionals. In doing so, we have partnered with Queer Awareness Month (QuAM), and established a partnership with Google. We have also hosted a film screening in partnership with DKA and done community outreach with the Ali Forney Center. We look forward to working with other organizations on campus and we have some great events planned for the upcoming year, including an HIV/AIDS Awareness event and further work with the Ali Forney Center.
