Our group has been operating as a satellite group of CUPS since 2007. Starting in the Fall of 2013, the group began operating separately of CUPS and has been ever since. In those 4 years, CPA has seen massive growth in the number of photographers and jobs coming in. In the 2015-2016 school year, CPA had over 20 active student photographers and over 100 photography jobs on campus and in the city. CPA photographers captured about 40 graduation portraits for students in Spring of 2016. For the past 2 years, the group has offered regular workshops to bring photographers together to share their skill sets and build community around professional photography on campus. Our group completed a project for the office of Undergraduate Student Life, providing student-produced photographic artwork of 6 student life activities–including Holi, Powwow, and Bacchanal. Our group has organized talented photographers on campus to beautifully capture life on campus and beyond, both providing paid learning opportunities for student photographers and quality photographic services to the community. There is a niche for professional photography–that captures events and portraits– on Columbia’s campus. CPA has proved effective at capturing that niche and has now earned new group recognition to function as an independent group given its success.
