Symposium is a humanism-oriented student organization dedicated to promoting liberal arts education and cross-cultural dialogue. Founded in 2013 by two Columbia students who wished to share their passion for the Core Curriculum with students in Asia, and guided by members of its Faculty Advisory Board, the mission of Symposium is to organize on-campus and overseas programs centered around close reading and seminar-style discussions of classics from the world’s civilizations; to provide, through these programs, high school (and college) students everywhere with limited access to liberal education the opportunity to study such works in a seminar setting at no charge; and at the same time to provide Columbia students with the opportunity in leading these programs to deepen their own cross-cultural perspectives.
