Rotaract originally began as a Rotary International youth programme in 1968 and has now grown into a major Rotary-sponsored organisation of over 7,000 clubs spread around the world and 173,000 + members. It is a professional service, leadership and community service organization for young men and women between the ages 18-30. Rotaract focuses on the development of young adults as leaders in their communities and workplaces. Clubs around the world also take part in international service projects, in a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world. Rotaract at Columbia University is supported by Riverdale Rotary, but we also work closely with Wall Street Rotary and New York Rotary at the United Nations. Some of the projects we have worked on in the past include "Be Bold Be Bald" in support for the fight against cancer, " End Polio Now" performance showcase, " Project for the Homeless, Disney Street Games, and Columbia Community Lunch Soup Kitchen. Along with philantrophy and community service oriented events, we are also focused on professional development and establishing a network amongst other Rotary groups in New York. Each year, we coordinate a non profit career fair for Columbia students to meet outside organizations. Past groups include UNICEF, Make A Wish Foundation, Center for Court Innovation, and Design Ignite Now. If you would like to join our mailing list, please email rotaract@columbia.edu to learn more about our upcoming events and how to get involved. We hold weekly meetings every Wednesday from 8:15-9pm in the East Ramp Lounge located in Lerner Hall at Columbia University.
