Youth in juvenile detention centers often experience gaps in their education that can leave them unprepared to return to school upon release. Education and mentorship are important factors that can potentially prevent youth from falling behind. Our organization seeks to tutor and mentor these youth to stay on track with their coursework and fill in any content gaps in any core academic subjects. We want to ensure that incarcerated youth receive the same level of academic support as other students. We hope that Emory students can serve as positive role models for the youth at the DeKalb Regional Youth Detention Center and provide one-on-one and small group academic instruction that will allow them to excel. We are not actively recruiting.
