The Emory Global Perioperative Alliance is a student-led, faculty-supervised organization within Emory University School of Medicine whose mission is to provide essential surgical services to improve patient quality of life, to engage in collaborative educational efforts with local healthcare staff, and to assist in local healthcare infrastructure in communities around the world. We have involvement across the Emory School of Medicine and Emory Healthcare system (and even some extra friends from across the United States) and faculty representation from the Departments of Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Anesthesiology. Our organization began in 2008 with a relationship between Emory and the Hospital Bienfaisance de Pignon in the town of Pignon within the Central Plateau of Haiti. Since then, we've established new connections with various faculty, organizations, and communities across the globe, including Bolivia, Peru, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Puerto Rico, and most recently, Guatemala.
