The Emory Muslim Medical Association (EMMA) seeks to engage with the broader Atlanta community and critically examine all issues around the practice of medicine as it pertains to the Muslim identity, culture, history, peoples, societies, politics, and the intersections therein. By establishing EMMA, our goal is to promote our medical school community and help our fellow classmates, physicians, community, as well as ourselves better understand the Muslim community we serve here in Atlanta, and the Muslim community on a broader scale. EMMA aims to stand as a medical student association focused on fostering a spiritually nurturing, tolerant, and inclusive Muslim community at the Emory School of Medicine. Initiatives that embody EMMA’s mission include: * Ramadan Iftars where all medical students are invited to have dinner with Muslim students and faculty breaking their fasts during Ramadan. * A volunteer screening clinic for our local under-served refugee and Muslim populations. * Educational Lunchtime Talks on how to best interact and understand your patients of Islamic background or even "What is Islam, in the first place?" * Mixers with other organizations to help promote our medical school community and understanding of each other's culture and backgrounds.
