ESO is a collective of undergradand grad students dedicated to increasing accessibility to science education through fun early learning experiences, specifically Science Olympiad. Science Olympiad is a national science competition for grades 6-12 mainly composed of student study for event categories culminating in invitational, state, and national tournaments where exams are taken. It’s an exciting learning environment and events provide dynamic applications of learned material, and is overall a great experience for these age groups. However, schools without paid event coaches require students to self study, which provides a significant barrier to learning and enjoyment. ESO aims to bridge this gap in 2 ways. The first is by providing Emory volunteer event coaches to middle and high school teams, and the second is holding the division b regional tournament on Emory’s campus in late February where students can practice, apply their learning, and have a fun science experience. There are a lot of ways to be involved! We need regular event coaches, people to write exams for the tournament, people to grade exams for the tournament, people to proctor exams, and much more! No Science Olympiad experience is necessary, you’ll be onboarded for all tasks. Feel free to reach out with any questions!
