GlobeMed is a 501(c)3 national student-led NGO inspired by the movement towards global health equity. We are a unique student organization that emphasizes the sustainability of direct partnerships. Through weekly meetings and activities, we foster a community of global health leaders. These partnerships teach us to be effective student leaders by listening to the voices of underserved populations in developing nations. For the past 5 years, we have been partnered with the MAP (Migrant Assistance Program) Foundation in Chiang Mai, Thailand. MAP seeks to empower migrant workers from Burma who enter Thailand in search of work and a better life, yet face discrimination and many other obstacles. In our GBMs, we learn about these migrants' stories, fundraise for MAP's Crisis Support Project, and advocate not only for their mission, but all social justice issues. Our main focus in GBM is to create an open space where Emory students can share their perspectives on different human rights and social justice issues and empower our members to stand up for the voices that aren't being heard.
