The mission of H.E.R.O. is to empower and educate the community within the Rollins School of Public Health, the greater Atlanta region, and the broader south, fostering a culture of informed decision-making and responsible behavior. Through evidence-based practices and inclusive education, we strive to promote harm reduction strategies, advocating for the well-being and safety of all individuals. By fostering a supportive and non-judgmental environment, we aim to reduce health risks and promote a comprehensive understanding of public health challenges, thereby contributing to a healthier and more resilient community.
The purpose of H.E.R.O. is to provide opportunities for students to learn more about the importance of harm reduction techniques to prevent opioid overdoses and how to implement those techniques in their community in an inclusive and non-judgmental way; to provide resources to students to promote healthier behaviors related to substance use; and to offer opportunities to volunteer at community events to promote harm reduction techniques related to substance use across the Southeast, specifically in the Atlanta area.
