Emory Pre-Health Latinx for Atlanta is a student-led organization dedicated to raising awareness about the healthcare disparities affecting the Latino community in Atlanta. The Atlanta community is home to 24,510 latinos and is growing. The importance of advocating for our community stems from experiences of not knowing when one is sick, the lack of resources or networks of support and above all what it means for it “to be too late.” Our mission is to advocate for underserved populations by organizing glucose and blood pressure screenings in Latino neighborhoods and offering Latino Pre-health students meaningful opportunities to shadow and volunteer with physicians who serve our community. By doing these screenings we aim to provide preventive care for kidney failure and diabetes, which is prevalent in the latino community. We’re passionate about empowering latino students in their journey to medical careers—whether it’s nursing, pre-med, pre-PA, or other healthcare fields—by creating a supportive space that fosters growth, advocacy, and leadership within our community.
