Exploring involvement with spirituality, religion and health activities in the context research, community outreach, education and other activities. We will explore the intersections of our mental, emotional, physical and spiritual bodies. We work more closely with the various collaborations and initiatives within Emory and the community around spirituality, religion and health as they coalesce. The roles of spirituality and religion with mental, emotional, and physical health are becoming more and more documented. The NIH National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health recently published an article on Including Spirituality Into a Fuller Picture of Research on Whole Person Health, https://www.nccih.nih.gov/about/offices/od/director/past-messages/including-spirituality-into-a-fuller-picture-of-research-on-whole-person-health?nav=govd We believe the role of spirituality and religion are more integral to health and should be a part of the conversation on health and holistic care more regularly. There remains much research to do in identifying not only effects of religion and spirituality on health (both mental and physical), but also identifying and mediating the disparities of health outcomes that stem from disconnects between providers and patients around approaches to this topic and health. We want to explore, act on, research, engage with communities and write about the integrated nature of our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual bodies. The SRHI is a group of cross-school, cross-cultural, cross-religion, cross-spirituality students participating in initiatives and collaboratives on these topics that include investigative research & writing, outreach, education, and other events. Structure & Activities The SRHI exercises leadership and engagement in: (1) Research and thought leadership writing; (2) Community outreach, volunteering and involvement; (3) Events for speakers, panels and other learning opportunities that the SRHI sponsors for the entire Emory community.
