Northeastern University Researchers of Neuroscience (NEURONS) is a student group for anyone interested in neuroscience. Members from all different majors are encouraged to join!2024-25 Mailing ListWe meet every other Thursday from 7-8pm in IV 019Our meetings from last year (2023-2024):Speaker Dr. Aaron Seitz from the Brain Game Center Lab at Northeastern who researches improving brain fitness and uses brain fitness games that aid in memory, vision, hearing, learning and more!A speed dating social for our mentorship program, the NEURON Network. A Halloween-themed speaker event with researchers who investigate fear: Vivika Shappard: Second-year PhD candidate who graduated from Vassar College and working on a project focused on characterizing the prefrontal-periaqueductal grey circuit along with a sexual dimorphic circuit that may contribute to varied fear responses across sexes. Lindsay Vincelette: First-year PhD candidate who graduated from Boston College and worked as a research assistant at Harvard Medical School after graduation. Young Professionals Panel: Meagan Tsou: Former NEURONS president :) spoke about her experience with research in neuropsychology and about her aspirations to work in pediatric neuropsychology. Kushali Gupta: An Associate scientist at Cerevel Therapeutics working with in vitro pharmacology. Gabriel Jabbour: A medical student at Georgetown University completing a year of clinical research at Beth Israel in the department of vascular surgery. A destress event with neuroanatomy coloring pages, Popeyes, and a movie (Inside Out)!Speaker Dr. Alexandra Rodman director of the Social Development and Wellbeing Lab at the Center for Cognitive and Brain Health at NEU. She is an assistant professor in the department of psychology, having completed her PhD in Psychology/Clinical Science and Postdoctoral Fellowship at Harvard University. A Valentine’s Day themed social with hot chocolate and games for our NEURONS Network. A co-op panel for members to ask the eboard about co-op, research, clinical experience and biotech opportunities. Brain Awareness Week! This year's theme: AI in Neuroscience! Our events featured an AI Symposium with Jim Schwoebel the engineering manager at Verily, an Alphabet precision health company, AI in healthcare with case studies to explore various implications in healthcare, AI technologies with Dr. Srinivas Sridhas founder of NeuroVEP, poster session for students to present their own research!Collab with bio club to host speaker Dr. Becca Shansky PI of the Shansky Lab which focuses on the mechanisms of stress and fear with projects on sex-dependent fear circuits, endocannabinoid effects on learning, and dopaminergic mechanisms of estrous-dependent extinction learning.  Join our Slack (a direct messaging/group chat app) with your Northeastern email to get reminders about meetings, interact directly with other club members, and enjoy prime neuroscience memes.We meet every other Thursday at 7pm in International Village room 019.
