MissionStanford SigEp's mission is to advance our community values of inclusion, community welfare, and academic and social enrichment. These values guide the totality of our actions from our individual lives to our member interactions to our community engagement and beyond.InclusionCommunity for all. We aim to build and foster a Stanford community actively and intentionally inclusive to all people based on mutual understanding, compassion, and empathy. We recognize the history of elitism and discrimination that has existed in Greek life, and with this in mind we are diligent in dismantling these attitudes and rectifying their past oppression. Our community of inclusion extends from within our chapter into the Stanford community and beyond. To this end, we pursue the following goals:Each member's diverse experiences compose an integral part of the chapter. Through elevating their stories, we aim to ensure that all members from their different backgrounds are each other's greatest advocates to succeed and lead in the chapter. We strive to deepen our existing relationships and build new bonds with organizations representing BIPOC, FLI, international, and LGBTQ+ students to regularly cosponsor academic, philanthropic, and social events. Our community extends beyond Stanford--we seek to grow our commitments to social movements and organizations working for inclusion through fundraising, organizing, and participating. Our recruitment priority is on actively appealing to underrepresented students early and consistently and ensuring that we design our fraternity as a space where they see themselves. We ensure the continuity and growth of our no-questions-asked dues aid policy. Cost has never been a barrier to SigEp and never will be.Community welfareAll for community. Our organization finds its place within a rich environment of its surrounding communities. In a symbiotic relationship with those around us, we emphasize not only being intentional citizens who support university and fellow organization sponsored events, but also at the same time actively introducing our own sets of initiatives to further community engagement both in a university and local context. As many ResX neighborhoods will be called home by our members, contributing proactively and often to the neighborhood system is a guiding principle for our members. We prioritize these values on an organizational level in order to cultivate personal stewardship among our members in continuously showing communal involvement beyond their time at the university.Academic and social enrichmentWe recognize that we each chose Stanford first and foremost to develop our intellects alongside other like minded and bright individuals, and Stanford SigEp positions itself uniquely at the service of this intent. As an organization of students, our chapter affirms its members' wide array of academic interests and supports their academic journeys, placing it front and center. By having all class levels represented within our tight knit community, we aim to offer invaluable mentorship in all spheres, mentorship that extends well beyond one's undergraduate career.Forming a solid group of diverse individuals creates opportunities to develop fundamental skills that lend themselves to facets of student life beyond the classroom. The core of our social programming focuses on the personal growth of the individual in an inclusive environment to build lasting bonds and form a lifelong community. To this end, we prohibit pledging and instead ensure that each member carries the same weight as any other. We do not tolerate any ill directed pressure and instead encourage our members towards personal achievement and success. Every one of our sponsored events is set forth with the clear intention towards developing our members as mentally, physically, and emotionally healthy members of the university.
