Mission
UCSB Bioethics Bowl pursues intellectual growth and social responsibility. We serve as a platform for students to critically examine and discuss the pressing bioethical issues of our time. As both a competitive team and an inclusive community, we strive to create a culture of informed dialogue and philosophical inquiry.
Membership Benefits
For those on the competition team:
Competing in Bioethics Bowl allows team members to hone their skills in both thoughtful philosophical reflection and thinking on their feet. It also encourages the development of public speaking and presentation skills, specifically with regards to articulating complicated philosophical arguments in plain language. Bioethics Bowl competitions are not about dominating the other side, but about having a conversation–and competing enables team members to have those conversations all over the country. Within the past year, we have traveled to Atlanta, Santa Cruz and Boston!
For those attending weekly discussions:
Joining our competition team is not required for participating in Bioethics Bowl. We host weekly socials in conjunction with UCSB Ethics Bowl where people can come together casually to talk about ethical issues and share their insights.
