Mission
To foster collaboration and innovation in multidisciplinary research and propel a new
generation to lead scientific and technological breakthroughs for the benefit of all
Californians.
CNSI is one of four California Institutes for Science & Innovation established by the
Governor’s office in 2000. These comprehensive research centers concentrate on
complex scientific challenges that demand multidisciplinary strategies and state of the
art equipment and facilities.
CNSI-UCSB is a powerhouse of more than 500 innovative professors, scientists,
researchers, entrepreneurs, and expert staff who are dedicated to developing and
catalyzing groundbreaking innovations to solve California’s most pressing scientific
problems.
