My name is Valerie Smith and I am so honored to be the 2023-2024 Kappa Delta President at the University of Texas. I have been so lucky to call KD my home for the past three years of college and the women in our chapter have shaped my life in countless ways.
Here at Sigma Epsilon, we pride ourselves on our sisterhood, philanthropy, leadership and academics. We are currently recognized by National Kappa Delta as a Merit Chapter, which means that we are in the top 10% of all 169 Kappa Delta chapters in the nation. I am proud to say that last year we raised over $50,000 for our philanthropies: Prevent Child Abuse America and the Center for Child Protection in Austin. We also get the unique opportunity to provide hands on volunteer work with local Girl Scout troops, inviting the girls to the Kappa Delta house and helping them earn badges.
We encourage our members not only to be involved in Kappa Delta, but also our community by joining outside organizations and holding leadership positions on campus. Just a few of the many outside organizations that Kappa Deltas are involved in are Texas Orange Jackets, Student Government, Texas 4000, Spark Magazine, and many other pre-professional and service based organizations. All in all, we want our members to pursue their unique passions, and we support them in doing so.
All of our members are encouraged to live by our open motto, “Let us strive for that which is Honorable, Beautiful, and Highest.” Our motto is what makes our sisterhood truly loving and encouraging. We strive to instill confidence in each other and everyone around us through everything we do. This sisterhood has given me endless support, countless memories, and the strength to grow into the person I am today. I am incredibly thankful for the impact Kappa Delta has had on my life and I will never forget it.
