The E. Lee Walker Fellowship at Texas exists to cultivate conscientious and persistent student action in the pursuit of community engagement. Addressing systemic social issues requires an enduring commitment and a deep intimacy with the affected community. Unfortunately, college students often operate on short, semester-long timelines which usually prohibit meaningful community engagement. The E. Lee Walker Fellowship at Texas breaks down this barrier by facilitating long-term student initiatives that are supported by and amplify community mentors and leaders. The Fellowship achieves this goal through a multistage process that emphasizes design thinking, critical theory, and mentorship. The three phases of the process are Education, Application, and Implementation.
