Political & Advocacy
TX Votes is a nonpartisan student organization dedicated to increasing civic engagement across UT's campus. We accomplish this goal through tabling, classroom presentations, social media outreach, hosting civic events, distributing registration and election information directly to UT professors, and encouraging other student groups to involve their members in the civic process through our Civic Engagement Alliance. Just this past fall semester (2023), as one of the leading nonpartisan voter engagement organizations on campus, we've visited over 102 classrooms (both in-person and virtually), registered over a thousand UT students to vote, and hosted several fun celebrations for major civic holidays. TX Votes is made up of students majoring in a wide array of degrees from Biology, English, Computer Science, Government, Political Communication to Studio Art. We are nonpartisan, so we will never tell you who or what to vote for. Just that you should vote!

TX Votes hosts events in partnership with other UT Austin Civic Engagement Alliance organizations every year. In fall 2021, we spearheaded voter registration at Moov-In, co-hosted a National Voter Registration Day drive, handed out roses on Election Day, continued our voting tradition of having breakfast and voting on the very first day of early voting, participated in several Gone to Texas student events, and so much more.

Students who participate in TX Votes have the opportunity to run for elected positions their first semester, apply to represent UT Austin at the Harvard IOP National Campaign Conference, train to be Volunteer Deputy Registrars (VDRs), and meet local elections officials. TX Votes graduates have gone on to attend work for Representative Hinojosa, Senator Watson, Round Rock Independent School District, Peace Corps, TriNet, Campus Vote Project, political fundraising companies, Indeed, Google, Texas Exes, and even create their own consulting companies. They have also gone on to attend law school/graduate school at William and Mary University, UC Berkley, Princeton University, Harvard University, Texas A&M University, and the New York School of Interior Design.
We love what we do and want to welcome you into our voting family. We hope you share a passion for civic engagement on the Forty Acres! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out. You can find us at:
