The High Value Care Club is committed to providing a foundation in high value care principles to all students. Despite having the costliest healthcare system in the world, the United States fails to perform well on numerous health outcomes metrics. Therefore, we seek to teach medical students how to deliver efficient and more equitable care while eliminating unnecessary waste. We partner with Choosing Wisely STARS, a national organization that seeks to foster student-led initiatives to advance health care value in medical education. The leaders of NYUGSOM High Value Care will attend a yearly summit with hundreds of medical students from across the country and gain exposure to the Choosing Wisely guidelines, as well as learn strategies to increase curricular content focused on the practical aspects of medicine. The club will host speaker and networking events to connect students to high value care focused physicians who are driving quality improvement initiatives, digital health projects, and policy initiatives at NYU Langone Health. These events will facilitate a pipeline of research opportunities for students interested in contributing to high value care during the academic year and summer term. Our hope is that all graduates of NYUGSOM will recognize high value care as the only type of care that should be delivered.
